Feasibility Studies
To determine whether a geothermal project is feasible at a site, Alares conducts a site visit, reviews
site information and conducts initial design calculations. For open loop systems, groundwater data is
evaluated to determine system requirements. A brief summary report is provided detailing possible
design options, permitting requirements and associated costs.
Permitting Services
Each state has permitting requirements for closed or open geothermal wells. In some cases,
groundwater data is required for some permits as well as a professional engineer's review and
approval. Alares can conduct these services, if required and complete the permit filing.
Thermal Conductivity Testing
Thermal conductivity testing measures the ability of the ground, at a specific site, to transfer heat. This
is especially important in commercial geothermal applications, where large amounts of heat must
move in and out of the ground heat exchanger. The efficiency of the heat exchanger is important in
determining its size. We provide thermal testing services for architects, owners, contractors, drillers
and designers.
Design Services
We can provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design services for either new
construction or existing buildings. Or we can provide specialty design for the geothermal well field
using leading industry software packages such as GLHEPRO and GLD. In addition, we also can
provide specification packages for geothermal system installation, testing and commissioning.

We also can provide total "design/build" systems from inception to completion. Our expertise in
